Board & Executive Working Sessions
UEV Board & Executive Working Sessions help boards, executive teams and senior leadership groups work through a defined organisational question with greater clarity, constructive challenge and a disciplined route to action.
They are designed for issues that need more than another meeting, but do not necessarily require a continuing advisory relationship or a larger programme.
When a focused intervention is useful
The right people may be in the room. The concern may be widely recognised. Yet the discussion continues to move between symptoms, opinions and competing priorities without producing enough clarity about the decision, the evidence or the ownership required.
A Board Working Session creates a disciplined space to examine the issue, test the reasoning and agree what should happen next.
01
The session begins with an issue the organisation genuinely needs to address, not a preselected topic looking for an audience.
02
The question, context, participants, evidence and boundaries are clarified before the session begins so time in the room is used well.
03
The conversation is structured to test assumptions, surface material tensions and distinguish what is known from what is merely believed.
04
The session is designed to improve clarity, choices, ownership and next actions, rather than end with a general sense that the discussion was useful.
05
Any recommendation for further work should follow from the issue, not from a preference to extend the engagement.
What is the real organisational issue beneath the visible symptoms?
Which decision has remained unresolved, and what is preventing movement?
Where are authority, accountability or ownership unclear?
What must change for the organisation to deliver the strategy with greater confidence?
Which dependencies are creating risk, delay or leadership overload?
What should the board, chief executive or leadership team decide now?
What evidence is missing before a responsible decision can be made?
How should the organisation sequence the next 90 days of action?
Illustrative uses
Founder and key-person dependency
Decision rights and accountability
Leadership-team capacity and alignment
Organisation design and operating strain
Execution visibility and strategic drift
Succession and continuity
Growth or scale integrity
Preparation for a consequential organisational transition
01
Clarify the issue, why it matters now, what decision or movement is required and what sits outside the scope of the session.
02
Identify the right participants, relevant evidence, pre-reading and any tensions that should be surfaced rather than allowed to remain implicit.
03
Use structured facilitation to examine the system beneath the symptom, test assumptions, consider trade-offs and determine where agreement or further evidence is required.
04
Capture decisions, owners, immediate actions, unresolved questions and the point at which progress should be reviewed.
Useful outputs
A clearer statement of the issue
A shared view of what matters most
Decisions reached or explicitly deferred
Named owners and immediate actions
Outstanding evidence or questions
A proportionate view of whether further support is required

A short scoping conversation can help clarify the issue, the participants, the evidence required and whether a Board Working Session is likely to create meaningful movement.
